On Sunday 28 April 2013 we organised a bike ride for Pulmonary Hypertension! The ride started at 11.00 am from Agia Sofia, Psychiko, and finished at the Athens Olympic Velodrome, where we held our conference.
Celebrations for World PH Day have been taking place in 22 countries from 22 April to 12 May with the aim of raising awareness for pulmonary hypertension. Hellenic PH has been actively taking part and this year’s theme for our campaign has been ‘Get Breathless for PH’. Harnessing the universal intercultural appeal of sport, people around the globe passionate about helping those living with PH have been encouraged to take part in sporting activities to ‘get breathless’. This imitates the experience of being breathless felt by many PH patients during everyday activities such as walking to the car or climbing the stairs. This powerful way of highlighting the restrictions on physical activity faced by PH patients has helped to raise wider awareness of PH and bring to the forefront the challenges these patients face.
At the Conference were present Deputy Minister of Health, Marios Salmas, Associate Professor in Athens Medical School of Athens University Stylianos Orfanos, the Mayor of Marousi and Head of Athens Medical Association Giorgos Patoulis, and cardiologist Panagiotis Karyofyllis.
